CASS early career talent earn 2020 DECRAs

Dr Katrine Beauregard from the School of Politics and International Relations, and Dr Elisa deCourcy from the Australian Studies Institute and have been successful in the most recent ARC Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) round.

Dr Beauregard has received an award of over $400,000 for a project exploring how political parties represent men and women differently, and what consequences this has for public political behaviour. The project seeks to identify specific contexts, actions, and policies that allow political parties to equally represent men and women in the political process to better understand how to eliminate gender inequalities in the representation process.

Dr deCourcy has been awarded over $343,000  for a project looking at the foundations of Australian photography. Her project will combine archival research of Australian photography between 1839 and 1854, with new methods of multimedia database design. The project will analyse how colonial Australian photographers’ distance from Europe prompted them to innovate with processes, materials and apparatuses. It will excavate this neglected dimension of colonial modernity, assessing its resonance for media heritage, culture, and law.
